I am contacting you about the posibility of arranging regular tutoring sessions for my Son, to support him through his GCSE years at school. He is 14 years old and has just started year 10. We live in Cawthorne, Barnsley and he attends Horbury Academy as this is close to where we used to live.
He is a lovely, bright lad, but struggles with his confidence due to problems with his handwriting and being able to get things down on paper as quickly as it pops into his head! He had issues in primary school which I think were perhaps not dealt with in the best way either at home or school, and have impacted on his learning and especially his confidence.
The feedback I get from school is, and always has been, that he can contribute well in class, and is capable but when it comes to getting things down on paper he struggles. His handwriting isn't good, and the onus was always put on this rather than the content. His english teacher last year was working with him on diverting him away from that and thinking more about the content. She has been integrating a laptop into lessons as much as possible as he seems to work better that way.
He is currently working behind where he should be and I don't want him to get left behind, especially with the advent of the exam only GCSEs! He responds very well on a 1-2-1 basis and I feel that having the right tutor will help give him the knowledge and understanding that can give him the confidence to pass his GCSE english.
I have two other younger children so tutoring at our home would be easier for me due to bedtime routines and transport etc. We have plenty quiet areas in the house where the little ones won't interfere with your sessions.
Evenings would work better for us as we regularly go away at weekends, and the best days would be Wednesday or Thursday.
If you are able to accommodate these times and would like to arrange an initial session to meet him and myself please get in touch.
